For Greenmount Hill, between Great Eastern Highway between Northam Road Train Assembly Area (RTAA) and Roe Highway Midvale, Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) now allows 36.5-meter A-Doubles at Level 3 Concessional Mass Limits (CML). Vehicle And Permit Requirements

  • Access granted via individual permit arrangements.
  • Access to route is approved for travel between 8pm and 6am only.
  • Drivers must have a minimum of 3 years in driving road trains and a good driving record – police clearance is required.
  • The prime mover must be fitted with an Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Braking System (EBS) with compatible CAN bus connection.
  • The trailers must be fitted with a Trailer Electronic Braking System (TEBS), Rollover Stability System (RSS), and compatible CAN bus connection.
  • The prime mover must be fitted with an engine that meets the emission standards specified in the Vehicle Standard (equivalent to Euro 5 Standards).
  • The prime mover must be fitted with and utilise an auxiliary braking system when descending the Hill.
  • Vehicle combinations will be restricted to travel in the left-hand lane, unless overtaking a slower moving vehicle.

Telematics and Service Provider Requirements

  1. The prime mover must be fitted with a driver fatigue and distraction monitoring system to manage events effectively.
  2. The prime mover must be installed with an in-vehicle telematics unit and Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) must be provided direct access to the telematics monitoring system.
  3. The telematics service provider (Teletrac Navman) must provide weekly reports demonstrating all vehicles stop in the mandatory stopping bay at the top of Greenmount Hill to check brakes and descend at a speed of no more than 40 km/h.
  4. At least one forward-facing camera and one rear-facing camera must be mounted on the prime mover - the rear-facing camera must be positioned on the driver's side of the prime mover.
