SmartNav simplifies the path to route adherence and compliance

SYDNEY, Australia, 26th May 2017 - Transtech, a division of Teletrac Navman, announces SmartNav, a world first heavy vehicle network adherence solution which helps to ensure compliance and drive cost savings for the Transport industry.

“Adherence to the regulatory road network is a big concern for transport and heavy mobile crane operators across Australia. Being able to ensure compliance against regulatory, permitted and customised road networks minimises the risk of non-conformance, enhances public safety and also creates opportunities,’’ said Anthony Laras, Regulatory Program and Partner manager at Transtech.

Bringing together a wide variety of functionality, SmartNav uses vehicle specifications, permits and road network data to determine the most efficient route. While road network maps are available from state jurisdictions or via the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s journey planner, SmartNav is unique in that it converts mapping data provided by road managers into turn-by-turn navigation, simplifying the driver's journey and making compliance easy.

Instant visual and audio alerts notify the driver when they’re navigating off the relevant network or assigned route, while back office staff receive email notifications, text messages and/or in-system alerts. If a driver leaves a planned route or the designated road network, SmartNav will direct the driver back to the compliant route or network. The solution works offline, requiring no cellular communication which is often limited in remote and rural areas.

“The ability to notify drivers and back office staff in real-time helps to improve safety and compliance across the entire road network. Drivers need to have the right tools to get their job done, and SmartNav empowers them to make good decisions out on the road,” said Laras.

Transtech is currently working closely with national government bodies, along with state-based authorities including Vic Roads, Western Australia Main Roads and the New South Wales Road and Maritime Service, to bring SmartNav’s mapping capabilities to customers across the country.
